Several ponds east of town contribute to
Traverse Creek along with many other
small tributaries south of town and up
country. Traverse Creek, plus all of its
contributing arms, ponds and the land
they are in, is called the Traverse Creek
Watershed, and its waters eventually
make it to the South Fork of the American
River. It has been designated a high-risk
watershed by the Georgetown Divide
Resource Conservation District (GDRCD)
because of its rural nature, high number
of plant species, total number of streams
within the watershed, potential for
sedimentation, important agricultural
areas and total fuel. (next)
