How would you find out whether our

watershed is healthy? Citizens of various

communities around the country have

asked themselves the same question

regarding their rivers, creeks and

watersheds. And the answer they have

come up with is: volunteer watershed

stewardship. Volunteer community

watershed stewardship is a grass roots

movement that gives the public a way to

have input into and responsibility for their

own community resources. In turn, the

State and Federal government offer some

financial support to these groups through

such agencies as the GDRCD and grants to

local watershed groups. California even

has a State “Clean Water Team” that

helps volunteers get started and helps

them solve problems along the way.
