Traverse Creek Stewardship (TraCkS) was

established in spring of 2005 by Susan

Whittington and Susan McCormick under

the auspices of the Georgetown Divide

Resource Conservation District. The two

Susans and about 30 volunteers were

trained by the GDRCD staff (Mark Egbert

and Jill Andersen), South Yuba River

Citizens League (Diane Cross) and the

Forest Service (Mike Taylor) in water

quality protocols and stream walk

assessments. In addition Greg Suba, with a

grant through the American River

Conservancy, trained 12 volunteers to

sample and identify benthic

macroinvertebrates (insects and other

organisms living on stream bottoms) in a

series of field and laboratory classes in

June of 2005. (next)
